Alcohol and Other Drugs

Decisions about alcohol & other drugs can be complex, involving many personal & social factors. While these decisions are personal in nature, reflecting upon your relationship with alcohol can help you determine the role it may or may not play in your life. Do you feel you have all the knowledge necessary to make an informed choice? Have you ever been concerned about your or a friend’s use of alcohol or other substances?

The acronym RAGS is a series of questions you can ask yourself to assess an ongoing interaction with a substance. Answering can help you evaluate the role of alcohol in your life:

* R Have you ever felt you should…Reduce your substance use?
* A Have you ever felt…Annoyed by people criticizing your substance use?
* G Have you ever felt…Guilty about using a substance?
* S Have you ever needed a substance to…Start your day?

Answering “yes” to one or more of these questions may indicate an unhealthy relationship with a substance. If you have questions or concerns, the Wellness Exchange can work with you in a non-judgmental way to evaluate your or a friend’s relationship with a substance.
