Health Tips – Asthma Triggers

Environmental triggers often cause asthma attacks. The things that trigger your asthma symptoms may be very different from the things that trigger symptoms in someone else. To keep your asthma under control, it’s important to avoid your personal triggers.

Common triggers that cause inflammation in the airways include:

  • Dust mites
  • Pets and animals
  • Cockroaches
  • Moulds
  • Pollens
  • Viral infections
  • Air pollutants

Triggers that don’t cause inflammation, but may cause reactions in your airways include:

  • Smoke
  • Exercise
  • Cold air
  • Chemical fumes
  • Some food additives
  • Some air pollutants
  • Intense emotions
