Very interesting column. However, you have falled in your endeavours, with saying 2 drinks a day are alright! My late husband & I, came from biological mothers who drank. We picked up the habit easily, but not from their supply of it. Both our families were poor, so purchasing alcohol rarely happened. Each of us started working immediately after high school, in professions that we wanted careers in. Being taken out for lunch with the BOSS was unbelievabley exciting! So when they ordered DRINKS, what do you think we were going to do? Yes, drink! Two bad marriages for us both, with stress levels being controlled only with Alcohol. Then finally after us losing touch for 30 yrs, we found each other & rarely wanted or needed a drink! BUT all Alcohol contains sufficient drug like abilities to devistate ANYONE's health, & consequently it did to us both. While your article certainly appears to be well thought out, perhaps you should take a second look at society's love affair with Liquor. I've been working for 6-8 months now, trying to pass this information on, only to discover there are MANY former drinkers/alcoholics, who have been dealt either the same affliction as we were, or one of many others Alcohol causes.
And very few of them have spoken about it, or even want to talk to me about it, for the shame & embarrassment. At the age of 52, I can tell you I've never been warned by anyone or read any warnings regarding drinking. Many of us here in North America, are attempting to have our Government force mandatory warning labels on each liquor container, as well as price increase. Well, we've heard no positive reply towards the LABELS, but last week, I was informed that it is before the Legislation, to increase all TAXS on Alcohol, so we've made somewhat of a good stride.
Lets just hope that the labels will also be accepted, as our Youth must be warned !
Thankyou.
